sniffle stopper

Can you believe it’s March already? The first half of the year always seems to fly by way too fast.
In a way it’s good – Spring is right around the corner, less than 2 weeks away!!! You can already FEEL spring springing!

Vancouver is a magnificent place to be during Spring.
All the flowers begin to bloom, the mountains remain covered in white snow caps, and the temperatures drop just enough to leave the windows down while driving.

The city begins to looks like a perpetual oil painting…not that it doesn’t otherwise, just a more vibrant oil painting.

Seasonal transition always causes the seasonal sniffles.
Noticed how everyone seems to have the sniffles lately?

Well, there are ways to prevent the annoying runny nose and stuffed up sinuses. Yes, the obvious would be to make sure to drink lots of fluids and dose up on Vitamin C; however, we can eat certain foods to prevent the flu from attacking our immune system!

GOJI BERRIES are one of those foods!
Also known as WOLFBERRIES!

These shrivelled up, ruby red superfoods are found in China and cultivated along the Yellow River. For over 600 years Goji berries have been used in traditional Chinese medicine; often referred to as the “Red Diamonds”.

Goji berries are nutrient dense, packed with antioxidants, amino acids, and fatty acids. All things we want to feed our body!

The density of it’s antioxidants will keep your body functioning at optimal levels, fighting off disease and infection.

Goji berries have more beta-carotene than carrots!
Beta-carotene is a group of natural chemicals which convert to Vitamin A in the body. So, since these berries are so high in Vitamin A, they can actually slow down the inevitable process of aging!!
So eat your Goji berries, and you can hold off another 10 years before you go under the knife, or inject yourself with cosmetic needles 😛

They also have more Vitamin C than oranges – perfect for flu season!

Goji berries are rich in monosaturated oleic acid, which prevents heart disease, decreases bad cholesterol, produces antioxidants, and works with omega-3 fatty acids to make our cell membranes more flexible and strong.
A supple membrane means hormones and neurotransmitters can get around more efficiently.

Goji berries are also proven to increase metabolism, which can thus lead to weight loss.

The coolest thing about healthy nutritious food is that there is never one single benefit, it is almost ALWAYS a never ending list of benefits!!

So, while eating Goji berries to prevent falling sick with it’s power of Vitamin C and antioxidants, you’re going to stop wrinkles from appearing, allow your endocrine system to work at optimal levels, and prevent heart disease, increased cholesterol…and basically stop all bad things from happening 😀

Whit munching on a whole bunch of Goji Berries! This is the only person – other than myself – who has a bottomless pit for a stomach. The only difference between her and I, is that her belly actually isbottomless – the food does not stick around her waist, it washes right through and she maintains a super ripped super slim figure with little to no effort. Grrrrr…people like this are the envy of the world I tell yah!

I like to soak my goji berries in water and then eat them!
You can toss them in your tea, water bottle, salad, trail mix, cereal, smoothies, yogurt, or even just eat them by themselves!

Okay, so now that you know how to stay healthy and flu-free during Spring, I can finally share yesterdays Leg workout with you!

After I finished my last cool-down, I drove over to the yoga studio for a 60 minute Yin class. Nice way to stretch, unwind, and hit the sack!

Today I did a 75 minute Power Vinyasa Flow class at Semperviva Yoga in Kitsilano. They gave me a birthday gift of free passes for 3 of my friends and myself. Pretty sweet!
I had an absolutely lovely evening! Good company followed by good food at The Naam!

I forgot how wonderful yoga is; I left the class feeling euphoric!
All I wanted to do was scream and cheer, while skipping hand in hand with my friends while Chumbawamba played in the background.
