Buddha-full

Seems like I have embarked on a healthy restaurant adventure!
Today, I made my first trip to the COOLEST little cafe on Lower Lonsdale called BUDDHA-FULL! This place is SO RAD! I mean common, WITH A NAME LIKE THAT, how can it NOT BE?!
The place is bursting with character, the ambience is warm and comforting, but most importantly, the two owners were incredibly genuine and helpful!
This place is definitely going on my “hubba hubba” list….along with Something Healthy, Cafe Medina, Whole Foods, Savoury Island, Naam, The Eatery, oooo and the list goes onnnnnn…..

Speaking of Something Healthy, Preet and I went there for lunch today. I finally tried the Burwich, which by the way, was DELICIOUS! I had the turkey burwich; it smelled and tasted JUST like a burger patty, but instead had flax bread as the bun. Oh and most importantly, the ketchup is made from roasted red peppers, tomatoes and sweetened with honey. Brilliant!
We then went to Menchies for fro-yo. I filled my cup to the brim and weight in at almost 300g, while Preet kept it simple and small. Pfttt…way to make me feel like a fatas** Preet! πŸ˜›

After lunch and dessert, I drove over to my old high school to pick up my transcript to send off to UBC. I made it there at lunch time, so the hallways were infested with kids. It made me feel really nostalgic, but happy at the same time. Absolutely NOTHING had changed!

Some new art they added to the front entrance!

Ahhh these pantings REALLY made me nostalgic!

I walked the halls and visited one of my favourite teachers, Mrs. O’ Connor. Oh man she was such an awesome teacher! I loved love her so much! She was in the middle of a lecture, so I wondered around outside, and within 10 seconds of being there, she spotted me and came rushing out to say hello. She came out beaming with excitement, calling my name. You know, I always feel like my old teachers have forgotten me, so when she called my name out, I felt really special πŸ™‚ Since were on this topic, I bumped into my grade 11 Earth Science teacher at the gym a few weeks ago. I didn’t recognize her, but interestingly, she recognized me. She didn’t remember my name, but she stopped me and said, “Hey! I know you! I taught you!” – Mrs. Jonat – also a lovely teacher! And also really fit! She was doing these crazy bosu ball one-legged deadlift exercises, and lots of plyometrics.

Anyway, I sort of went off topic there. What I wanted to tell you about, was the AWESOME little cafe, Buddha-Full!
I actually went there to study, so I started with a Matcha Latte with Almond Milk and Stevia πŸ™‚

The tables, chairs, and decor were so awesome.

hehe LOVED THIS!

They are basically a smoothie bar (I seem to have developed a new obsession with smoothies), but serve vegan, gluten-free, and raw dishes as well. In fact, if I am not wrong, they were rated as Best Vegetarian Restaurant by the Georgia Straight.
You know…it is actually really hard to find places that use REAL FRUIT and REAL VEG in their smoothies! I think my obsession takes root at Whole Foods; I tried their smoothie called “The Green Goodness” a few weeks, and ever since then I have been on this bizarre smoothie bender! The Green Goodness has Kale and Ginger in it, but is surprisingly tasty! After that discovery, I discovered Something Healthy, and they make real smoothies too! And now, Buddha-Full!

Finally, after studyingΒ attempting to study Β (instead I chatted with this lovely elderly man named Bob for about an hour and a half) I decided to get a SMOOTHIE.
Bob told me his life story, which was sort of tragic, but he surprisingly managed to remain such a genuine, jolly fellow. It was one of those cliche stories, where young foreign woman takes advantage of rich older man, gives him a baby, and as soon as he falls sick due to old age, she dumps him and takes everything he owns. Tragedy at it’s finest!

The Menu!

I had the Buddha Buzz! It had Cinnamon, Cocoa, Hazelnut, and Organic Espresso, and Banana. 3 words: TO. DIE. FOR.

you know it’s going to be a good day when….

I set my alarm about 30 minutes earlier this morning. My printer has been making a strange, loud hissing sound; consequently refusing to print anything. My intention in waking up early, was to leave the house bout 20 minutes earlier to use the printer at school. Usually I am rushing out the door in the morning; today I looked at the clock and thought I was getting late. I wanted to leave the house at 9:30, and this entire time I thought it was 9:45. GUESS WHAT! It was 8:45!! hahaha! How AWESOME IS THAT! Times like these are so reassuring – today IS going to be a good day! I can just FEEL IT! So I figured since I have 45 minutes to kill, I’ll spend it with you!
Yesterdays smoothieΒ inspired todays breakfast: Nutty Chocolate Overnight Oats!

1/4 cup Instant Oats
1/2 cup Honey Greek Yogi
1 tablespoon Black Chia Seeds
1 tablespoon Almond Cashew Butter
1/2 tablespoon Nestle Chocolate Powder
1/2 cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
1 packet Stevia

Last night I mixed all the above ingredients into a tupperware container, and set it into the fridge overnight.
This morning I splashed some almond milk on it to make it a little less thick and THOROUGHLY enjoyed it πŸ˜€
I had some fresh pineapple strips on the side. Yum-MY!

Banana Walnut Oatmeal & Bean-Veg Salad

Before my cardio workout this morning, I gobbled down some hot cereal. I find oatmeal to be remarkably boring. I know…I know…there is SO MUCH one can do to make oatmeal exciting. I plan to experiment with it, and yes, I will share my experiments with you πŸ™‚

1/4 cup Quaker Instant Oats
1/4 cup Egg Whites
1/4 cup Greek Yogi
1 packet Stevia
handful Walnuts
1/2 Banana, sliced
Cinnamon Powder

I mixed the first 4 ingredients into a bowl and nuked it in the microwave for 90 seconds. I then sprinkled cinnamon, mixed it up, and topped it with bananas and walnuts!
I then decided to eat the other 1/2 of the banana with 1/2 tablespoon of peanut butter! yum!

After the gym I was starved.
Mom made stirfried chopped green beans with fried onion last night, so I mixed that with 1/2 cup mung beans, and a random assortment of veg I found in the fridge. I drizzled the tiniest bit of stir-fry sauce over the veggie bean salad and shook the box up. Ta-Da!

I didn’t feel like opening a can of tuna or cooking up some poultry, so instead, I drank a glass of water mixed with vanilla whey protein powder with cinnamon and (TINY bit of) nutmeg.
I kind of wanted dessert once I was done, so I unwrapped one of those 90 calorie FiberOne Brownies I bought down in the states.

And that was breakfast & lunch πŸ™‚

I am super excited for this evening; because sometime last year I bought a Groupon for Raw Canvas. It was wicked deal – 30 bucks for a glass of wine and a small canvas!
Raw Canvas is SO COOL! It is a wine bar that serves tapas like flavourful cheese, olive tapenade, and crispy crostinis. Once you are done shmoozing and boozing, you head to the back of the bar where you can set up your canvas (which you buy) on an aisle, and start painting with acrylic paints! Brilliant eh?!
I had my birthday there last year, but we never got around to actually using a canvas. We had way too much fun nibbling on tapas and sipping wine, that by the end of it, our heads were so cloudy, we ended up at a nigh club!! The one place I told myself I did not want to end up on my birthday; however, it was an awesome night! I remember seeing double by the end of it (haha). Definitely a fun night. I had my 2 closest homies by my side the whole night – couldn’t have asked for more!
